a late-night builder’s lab

The builder keeps strange hours, though not in the way the phrase usually means. The clock runs on whatever problem is open in the back of their head. Hand them a tool that’s almost right and the evening’s gone, rebuilt from scratch, because almost-right was unbearable to leave alone. Somewhere there’s a folder with fourteen projects in it, two of which still run.
